Network Options - Advanced (Client)

Note: The advanced network settings pages allow more control over network settings, making it easier to mess things up!  We recommend using the standard network settings unless you need access to something specific that is not offered there.

The advanced network client configuration page allows more control over the Ascendis Caller ID client, including connecting to more than one Ascendis Caller ID server.

Get calls from specified servers on network

This should be turned on for all computers that are not already connected to a caller id-capable device so they will pick up the caller id information from the network.  (This option turns the computer into an Ascendis Caller ID client.)

Overwrite local contacts

This indicates whether the contact in this computer's (the client's) database will be overwritten by the contact on the server if the server sends the contact with the call.  If this option is not checked and the server sends the contact, it will be used if the contact does not already exist in the local database, otherwise it will be ignored.

This option is disabled unless "Get calls from Caller ID Servers on network" is checked.

Overwrite local actions

This indicates whether the action in this computer's (the client's) database will be overwritten by the action on the server if the server sends the action with the call.  If this option is not checked and the server sends the action, it will be used if the action does not already exist in the local database, otherwise it will be ignored.

This option is disabled unless "Get calls from Caller ID Servers on network" is checked.

External Servers List

Network Options - Advanced (Client-External Servers)

External Servers

Lists all Ascendis Caller ID servers you want the machine being configured to connect to.

Add

Adds a new external server.

Delete

Deletes the selected external server.

Up

Moves the selected external server up in the list.  External servers are checked in order, but generally the order will have no discernible effect.

Down

Moves the selected external server down in the list.

Selected Server Settings

Network Options - Advanced (Client-Selected Server)

Enable this server

Determines whether this machine will attempt to contact the selected external server.  Use it to temporarily disable servers or to try different settings without losing working settings.

Server address must be set to the IP address of the machine acting as Ascendis Caller ID server.  This is usually the computer running Ascendis Caller ID that is connected to the caller-id capable modem or other TAPI device.  You can determine the server's address by looking at the Network page of the Options window of Ascendis Caller ID running on the server.  It appears as "Server IP address" on the simple Network page, and the advanced Network Server page.

Server port

Must be the same as the port number on the Ascendis Caller ID server.  You shouldn't have to change this number unless another protocol on your network is already using the port.  More information on port usage can be found here.

Connection Type Settings

Real-time

Instructs Ascendis Caller ID to use the real-time protocol.

Get new calls first

Tells Ascendis Caller ID to try to get all calls that were received by the server since the last call in the Calls list.  Ascendis Caller ID will make a single polling connection to the server, then initiate the real-time connection.

Check for new calls every ___ seconds

Instructs Ascendis Caller ID to use the polling protocol.

Username

Must match the username specified for the server specified above.

Password

Must match the password specified for the server specified above.

Process first ___ calls

Determines the maximum number of calls that will be processed as incoming calls each time Ascendis Caller ID connects to the polling server.  When connecting to a polling server for the first time from a client with no calls in the database, each call on the server will be transferred to the client.  If the server has a lot of calls in the database, it could take a very long time to announce all the calls.  In any case, all (relevant) calls will be transferred and will be visible in the database once the polling completes.
