Manually Disable TiVo Beacon Service

Top  Contents  Index

Ascendis Caller ID contains a TiVo server that can be used to make calls, contacts, and actions information available to TiVo Series2 devices with the Home Media Option.  The installer includes the TiVo Beacon service, which lets Ascendis Caller ID coexist peacefully with TiVo Desktop.  The Ascendis Caller ID uninstaller will stop and remove the TiVo Beacon service if no other programs (like TiVo Desktop) are using it.  However, TiVo instructs developers to leave the TiVo Beacon service intact even when programs using it are uninstalled.  If you used one of these programs and would like to get rid of the TiVo Beacon service, follow these instructions:

Windows XP:

1. Open the Control Panel

2. Click "Performance and Maintenance"

3. Click "Administrative Tools"

4. Double-click "Services"

5. Scroll down to "TiVo Beacon"

6. Right-click on "TiVo Beacon" and pick "Properties"

7. In the "TiVo Beacon Properties" window, click the "Startup type" combo box and select "Disabled"

8. Click the "Stop" button

9. Click the "OK" button to close the window and save the changes

10. Select "Exit" on the "File" menu to close the Services application

(These instruction were created using TiVo Desktop 1.3 as a reference.)
