Multiple Caller ID Servers

When using Ascendis Caller ID in a multiple phone line environment, it is often the case that each phone line is attached to a different computer.  In this case each client will connect to multiple servers.  This is directly supported (in versions later than 1.6.5.0) by using advanced network client settings.  Earlier versions only supported a single external server, and chaining the servers was used as a workaround:

Server #1 -- attached to phone line 1, configured as Ascendis Caller ID server (Server Type "Both")

Server #2 -- attached to phone line 2, configured as Ascendis Caller ID server (Server Type "Both"), and Ascendis Caller ID client of Server #1 (Connection Type "Real-time")

Client  #1 -- configured as client of Server #2 (Connection Type "Real-time")

In this configuration Server #1 will record all calls on phone line 1.  Server #2 will record all calls on phone line 2, and calls on phone line 1 that it receives from Server #1.  Client #1 will receive call info for all calls one phone lines 1 and 2.

To clarify, we no longer recommend chaining servers, as specifying multiple servers in advanced network client settings is easier and should yield improved performance.
