Hung modem

Post by Frostye »

When call comes in, everything works great up and until
if caller hangs up before the wav file is finished playing
(Caller hangs up during the PhoneSound command playing the wav file)

I get the error:

3/23/2005 11:49:22 AM - TfxLineCallback: Could not play wave file "C:\Program Files\Ascendis Software\Caller ID\OGM.wav" (Exception)

3/23/2005 11:49:34 AM - Could not execute script because: Runtime Error: Script problem: Could not play sound over phone because Could not play wave file "C:\Program Files\Ascendis Software\Caller ID\OGM.wav" // LANGUAGE=DWS
[line: 6, column: 1]

Script
// LANGUAGE=DWS
speak ('Your father is calling');
PhoneSound ('OGM.wav');
speak ('Your father is calling');
phonesound ('spacer2.wav');
PhoneSound ('OGM.wav');
speak ('Your father is calling');
hangup;

Everything works great up to the point the caller hangs up the phone.
After that the modem is left in "open line" state and will not hang up until I restart Ascendis Caller ID.

Can you help me out there Bill?

Re: Hung modem

Post by Bill Root »

Hi Frostye,
Everything works great up to the point the caller hangs up the phone.
After that the modem is left in "open line" state and will not hang up until I restart Ascendis Caller ID.
This was a problem with Ascendis Caller ID. I just posted a new beta (1.8.1.8) that makes sure the modem disconnects when the script is done, even if an error occurs or the script does not hang up.

Your modem is apparently smarter or more sensitive than the ones we test with here, as I could not duplicate the problem by hanging up. However, I was able to induce a different error with the same apparent result.

If this does not resolve the problem with your modem, please send a Technical Support Report (Help menu, Technical Support Report, Send button) so I can diagnose better.

Finest regards,

Re: Now auto shut down?

Hi Frostye,
3/25/2005 02:38:54 PM - Started
3/25/2005 02:38:54 PM - Caller ID Version 1.8.1.8 (3/24/2005 12:05:06 PM)
3/25/2005 02:38:54 PM - C:\Program Files\Ascendis Software\Caller ID\CallerID.EXE
3/25/2005 02:57:46 PM - TfxLineCallback: Could not play wave file "C:\Program Files\Ascendis Software\Caller ID\HSBC\AAAAlt1.wav" (Exception)
3/25/2005 02:57:49 PM - Script has ended, but call is still connected -- disconnecting
3/25/2005 03:53:19 PM - tLine finalization: s_listCalls <> 0
3/25/2005 03:53:19 PM - Shutting down
The log shows Ascendis Caller ID shut down almost an hour after the script ended. That doesn't seem like a strong correlation, but presumably you (or someone else) didn't shut it down manually? Does the time (3:53:19 PM) correlate with anything you can think of?

If possible, could you please post the Line Monitor log the next time one of these "Could not play wave file" exceptions occurs? Maybe I can figure out what your modem is doing when someone hangs up. The Line Monitor is available under the Help menu, Diagnostics submenu.

Thank you,
Bill Root

Here you go.

Got one call earlier. Out of area. It sent ACR wav. No errors reported everything looks great. Second call comes in Caller ID doesn't even see the call.

Re: repeated again

Post by Bill Root »

Hi Frostye,

Thank you for the information. The version you're using includes an option that should help here. Open the Options window, select the Devices page, select your modem, and click Properties. Enable "Reopen device when call ends". Click OK to close the Properties window, then again to close the Options window. This will make Ascendis Caller ID close and reopen the modem after a call, which some modems seem to require in voice mode. We may end up enabling this by default.

Finest regards,
