double number format at my switchbox in Yugoslavia

Post by anonymus_yu »

Just got a caller id feature, but it seems that the telephone company is sending caller id fields like this : DATE,TIME,NMBR,NMBR,MESG,MESG.

The first NMBR is caller's number.
The second NMBR is my(callee) number.

Program displays/sees only second(last) NMBR number,but I need first!

Could be that option(first number only) be added?

Hello anonymus_yu,

That is an interesting problem. I don't know yet whether we can work around it -- it depends on what TAPI does with the NMBR messages. Can you send us a Technical Support Report so we can determine whether a workaround is possible? First start Ascendis Caller ID and wait until the problem happens. Then select "Technical Support Report" on the Help menu. Click the Send button to send it to your email program. (The report is long so it may take a couple of minutes to appear in your email program.) If that doesn't work, click the Copy button and paste it into the "Detailed problem description" box on the Support Request Form here:

I sent the report.
Is the modem response specific by country selection of modem driver installation?

Maybe I should try other countries (current=USA or Germany, not sure which)

Thanks for such fast reply!

The configured modem responses (in other words, the modem responses as defined by the modem configuration file) would not vary by country (in all likelihood, anyway). Typically the modem needs to be configured for the country in which it is operating. This is normally done through the Phone and Modem Options control panel. Presumably the modem firmware (or the modem drivers) interpret the signals coming in to the modem differently depending on the country setting. It's possible that a different country setting would improve the situation, although I would not expect it.

For others following this thread, anonymus_yu sent in the Technical Support Report which showed that although the modem was sending the NMBR message twice, TAPI was apparently ignoring the first one, and only sending the second one to Ascendis Caller ID. As far as I know, there is no way Ascendis Caller ID can workaround this problem while still using TAPI in the prescribed manner. I am also unaware of any configuration changes that would fix the problem. It's conceivable (though perhaps unlikely) that a different version of Windows (he was using Windows 98) or a different modem would behave better.

I have exactly same problem with Apache A56SP-HCF PCI hardware modem and Swisscom (Switzerland). Is there a solution?

Can you try Ascendis Caller ID in non-TAPI mode to see what happens? To enable this:

In Ascendis Caller ID:

1) Open the Options window
2) Click the Devices tab
3) Make sure the "Modems and TAPI" sub-page is showing
4) Select your modem in the list
5) Click the Properties button
6) Remove the check mark next to "Access through TAPI"
7) Click OK to save the change and close the Properties window
8) Click OK to save the change and close the Options window

If this does not solve the problem, please send a Technical Support Report (Help menu, Technical Support Report) and explain which NMBR message is correct.

Thanks for fast answer.
There is no changes with recommended setting, Ascendis Caller ID detect my proper number as CallerID.

"NMBR = 0765763055" is Caller ID
"NMBR = 0328520925" is my number
"MESG = 455753442066726F6D205349454D454E53" is mean "EWSD from SIEMENS"

I asked my phone company too, but I didn't receive solution.

Two NMBR messages from modem

Post by Bill Root »

I just posted a new beta version that I hope will solve your problem. You can download the beta installer from the beta page:

http://ascendis.com/callerid/beta.php

Install it right over your current version.

I think the new version will solve your problem immediately, since the NMBR you want reported is the first one (if I read your post correctly). Otherwise, open the Device Properties window for your modem (Ascendis Caller ID Options window, Devices page) and change the setting for "Prefer (first or second) NMBR message".

If the new version doesn't fix the problem, please send a Technical Support Report.

Finest regards,

I live in Sofia, Bulgaria. Some time ago I wrote a linux CID-processing software for my own needs and I found the same behavior from our phone station computer, which is also EWSD from Siemens. I think it will be a good idea to add an option to show the two numbers in separate columns, since the second number is not just your phone number, but the number the calling party actually dialed. It's useful to distinguish a case of a diverted call, when the second NMBR message would show you the number where the call is diverted from. Maybe it's also a good idea for the program to know your phone number and to indicate a diverted call if the second NMBR message is something different from your own number.
It seems you'll have to add a submenu for "EWSD from Siemens".. ;)

Hello bobi,

Thank you for your informative post. This is very helpful. We're still deciding whether and how we would support this in some future version.
