Hello,
I recently purchased the Ascendis Caller ID software Ver. 1.7.0.0. I have a Aceex Voice/Fax Modem. I'm told it should support caller ID and I am getting communication to the program via the modem on incoming calls.

I have tried each of the modem commands suggested in the "Enabling Caller ID Support..." in troubleshooting. I get response only if the "Extra Settings" are left blank. Can you assist? Do I need to change modems, if so, please advise the most compatable modem.

Note: Modem closures were based on my trial and elimination of each command.

Re: No caller info

I have tried each of the modem commands suggested in the "Enabling Caller ID Support..." in troubleshooting. I get response only if the "Extra Settings" are left blank. Can you assist? Do I need to change modems, if so, please advise the most compatable modem.
First of all, thank you for your purchase!

The log suggests that the modem is properly configured. I could not determine whether your modem is supposed to support caller id, so that could be the problem in spite of what you were told. Have you ever gotten caller information through the modem, with any program? Can you connect a caller id device (box or phone) to the modem phone line to verify that caller id service is enabled and working on that line? I also suggest trying the Repair Modem feature in Ascendis Caller ID (Help menu -> Diagnostics -> Repair Modem) if you haven't already. This will give you an opportunity to see whether the modem sends the caller information.

If it turns out that your modem does not support caller id and it's an internal modem and you reside in the US, I can recommend an inexpensive winmodem that appears to work well. It's the TrendNet TFM-PCIV92I:
http://www.trendnet.com/products/TFM-PCIV92I.htm
I picked one up for $12. I've only had it one week so I don't have enough experience to recommend it unequivocally, but the other internal modems I have more experience with are no longer sold, or are not sold at retail. (Beware of the similar TFM-PCIV92 -- it does not support caller id.)

We also recommend the Zoom 3049, an external serial modem:
http://www.zoomtel.com/products/dial_up ... erial.html
This modem is more expensive since it's external, and will probably run about $70 before tax and shipping. However, all modem functions are performed in hardware so it won't slow down your computer and won't fail because of driver problems.

More modems are mentioned on our modem page:
http://www.ascendis.com/callerid/modems.php

Please let me know if this is not clear or does not resolve your problem.

Finest regards,
