Suggestions for USB Modem that works with Vista

Post by Brad Harris »

I just purchased a new system and no longer have room for my PCI modem. I want to go with an USB modem. Not really concerned about features. It is solely for use with Caller ID.

I just want something that I can plug in and it is going to work. Inexpensive would be a bonus but primarily, I want to keep the hassles to a minimum and if I need to pay more to do so, that is fine.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Brad,

I'm sorry that I can't offer any Vista-compatible USB modem suggestions. We have had poor experiences with USB modems and have not tried any with Vista.

You might consider the Zoom 3049C modem we recommend on our modem page:
http://www.ascendis.com/callerid/modems.php
and a USB-to-serial converter. Just make sure to get a converter that works with Vista.

Finest regards,

I know this is an old post, but for searchers who end up here, we now recommend the Zoom 3095 USB modem for users in the U.S. This modem is listed in the "Recommendations" section of our modem page:

For PhoneSound support in Vista, you will need to use TAPI-bypass mode:
