Show "Edit Call" on incoming call / multiple "Calls Report" tabs and tweaks

Post by ajackson »

Hi Bill,

First I have to say that I love your Ascendis Caller ID program - have been looking for something with the flexibility this provides (in particular the ability to import contacts from a CSV file with custom attributes), and am loving all the various features it includes, especially the ability to customize the call notification windows that pop-up using HTML.

Can I please suggest a couple of things which'd be incredibly useful for not only myself but hopefully others too...

- Is there any way the "Edit Call" screen could be made to pop-up upon receiving an incoming call, e.g. either via an Action, or using a command that can be added to the HTML notification window. This'd make taking notes from a call virtually seamless, whereas currently it requires opening the main program window, selecting the call, and clicking the "Edit Call Notes" button.

- Love the ability to create custom reports using the "Calls Report" tab - would it be possible to allow multiple of these tabs to be created (e.g. each one showing a different report). This'd allow different reports to be accessed at once, rather than having to save different filters then open them each time.

- When creating a filter for the "Calls Report" tab, if filtering on a date value and "is today" is selected, when rebuilding the report, this filters based on the date that "is today" is selected, and not the actual "today" date. For example if I create a report with filters on the 11/09, then rebuild these each following day, it'll always show calls from the 11/09 even if rebuilding on the following days. If this could be corrected so "today", "yesterday" etc take into account the time at which the "rebuild" process occurs, this'd be great.

Many thanks :)

Hi Aaron,

Thank you for your kind words and your good ideas. I added a setting for showing the "Edit Call" window when a call comes in. This is already working here and will be included in the next release.

Implementing multiple "Calls Report" tabs is very difficult because of all the functionality included in it, including the operations that can be performed by right-clicking on a call, and the potential memory demands. Would it be reasonable to make it easier to switch between filters, such as by adding commands to save and load them? Maybe even a drop-down combo box to select one. This would not allow switching between them as quickly as clicking on a different tab.

I'm looking into making the named date ranges (or at least the most common ones) always be relative to the current date. I'm hopeful but I don't have it working yet.

Thanks Bill - good news about the "Edit Call" window!

Fully understand the complexities around duplicating the report tab - but I reckon your solution of being able to easily switch between filters would be perfect. Look forward to seeing what you come up with when you get the chance to work on it.

Hi Aaron,

I uploaded a new beta version of Ascendis Caller ID (4.0.0.0) yesterday that includes your proposed changes. Even though it's a new major version this is a free upgrade for you.

The post about the new version is at /forum/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=859.

If you have questions about the new functionality or think that saving and loading calls reports needs adjustment, please speak up.
