How to block area code?

Post by RoKphish »

Hello ... new user here. I've searched for topics related to my question but didn't find anything useful.

Is there a way to block all calls from a specific area code ... specifically area code 202?

Hello RoKphish,

Welcome to Ascendis Caller ID, and/or this forum.

Yes, you can block all calls from an area code in Ascendis Caller ID using a pattern. Patterns are discussed in the help:
http://ascendis.com/callerid/help/conta ... tterns.php

As the above page mentions, patterns are used to assign new phone numbers to a contact. Once the phone number is assigned to the contact, the pattern has no affect on it. I mention this because deleting a pattern will not change the phone numbers that have already been assigned to the contact. This means undoing an errant pattern may take more effort than expected.

To block an entire area code:
  1. click the Contacts tab in the main window
  2. click the "New Contact" button on the toolbar
  3. enter a descriptive name into the "First Name" field (perhaps "Block")
  4. change the "Action" to "Block"
  5. click the "Patterns" tab
  6. click the "Add" button near the bottom of the window
  7. uncheck "Match by name"
  8. check "Match by phone number"
  9. type "202%" into the "Number Pattern" box
  10. select "wildcards" under "Match"
  11. click "Add" again
  12. uncheck "Match by name"
  13. check "Match by phone number"
  14. type "1202%" into the "Number Pattern" box
  15. select "wildcards" under "Match"
  16. click OK to save the changes and close the window
The first pattern will match all phone numbers starting with "202". The second will match all phone numbers starting with "1202". I included both because I don't know whether your system reports calls for area code 202 with or without the long distance indicator.

Yeah it's good if the calls are coming from the same area code.

More importantly, it assumes you don't need to talk to anybody from the area code!
